This course is aimed to prepare dogs and handlers to work as a therapy team in a variety of settings including libraries, schools, hospitals and retirement homes. The rigorous curriculum will enable the student to pass the Control Evaluation that will be administered on week five. Once the dog and handler team passes the evaluation, they will be required to perform ten hours of supervised visits. After successful completion of the supervised visits, the team will become official Love on a Leash volunteers. This challenging program is providing a meaningful outlet for owners who want to share the happiness their dogs can provide. All dogs must be proficient in basic obedience skills to enroll in this class and must be assessed by the trainers to assure they possess the qualities necessary to be a working therapy dog.
